Hello everyone,
Welcome to a Terrific Tuesday here in Kindergarten 1!
Today we started our day with a small group time with our educators. After completing our daily calendar we had a class vote on what story we all wanted to read today. This is a great way for each of our little friends to cultivate a sense of value as each and every one of them is an important member of our class π
After our morning tea, we joined again on our mat for our Chinese lesson with Miss Jess! Today we focused on counting and number recognition in mandarin. It is amazing to see how quickly the children catch on and can memorize words/numbers in another language. We love boosting our brain power by learning another language!
Back in the classroom, we got to play some fun indoor games as a class. Everyone happily participated in our parachute game and also had lots of fun playing our own version of bowling!
While some of us attended our weekly Tennis lesson, the rest of us enjoyed a little indoor/outdoor play. Inside the classroom lots of us participated in some money activities with Miss Tatyana. We did the money shop scenario and also made our very own money! First there were lots of different food items with prices ranging from $1-$10. The children then had to use the play money and take turns buying different items and were required to calculate the correct amount needed to give change. This helped develop skills such as number recognition, counting, simple adding and subtracting, the concept of exchanging money for goods as well as discussing food choices and how supermarkets work. There was even an activity where we picked a note and had to draw and make our own. Seeing and understanding the shape, symbols, color, etc.
While we enjoyed our free play outside, we rotated inside to make our own beds today. Here in Kindergarten 1, we want the children to be their best self and this will teach them to take care in their belongings, extend their self-help skills and independence. We were then suddenly all ready for rest time, good job friends π
Soon after, it was time for us all to transition onto the tables and fill our bellies up with a delicious meal and drink lots of water, ready for the rest of our Tuesday!
Thank you for such a lovely day, we will see you all very soon π
P.S Kindy class would like wish Harry Lay a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY for today! We hope you have enjoyed your day at home with your family and know how loved you are!
NOTE: We are going to start our Home Reading Program in the upcoming weeks so we need families to purchase a small folder that they can put the books and worksheets in to take home. This is optional but is a very powerful way to get your child to understand letters, printed words and their meaning, as well as how to think critically about whatβs going on in a story (look up the 3S reading strategy or the Abecedarian approach to conversational reading) Thank you.
Kind regards,
Mr Andrew and Miss Tatyana
