Happy Friday everyone what a beautiful day we have had in the Kindergarten today, with a very small group of six children. The children have all been engaging and interreacting with each other so beautifully, some have commented how they love this day and it has been the best day which is awesome.
This morning we had a very leisurely morning tea, having wonderful conversations about what they would like to do today, what they think they might do over the long weekend, and we talked about the food and what it tasted like. Next we moved into our morning activities.
This morning the children were feeling in a creative mood as they requested to have painting out and some art. I thought it would be fun for the children to create a collage or picture using a variety of different materials. This proved to be a great choice as all the children were eager to have a turn. Hamilton created a birthday cake for his Mum Dad to show them how much he loved them and Wynter made a different birthday cake and a snowman. Whilst Angelina, and Layla just wanted to explore the various materials.
Other play that was happening in the room included puzzle exploration, home corner play where the children had turned into dogs who were off to a wedding. Austin spent some time setting up the dolls house. Hamilton, Angelina and Layla began creating some Dinosaur mosaics, which were a great opportunity for us to use our fine motor skills as they stuck on the mosaic foam. Which they will continue to have the opportunity to explore during quiet activity time.
As it was such a nice day I thought we could go outside and explore our physical skills. First we practiced our jumping with two from up on the balancing planks. The children all did such a great job at trying ever so hard to jump with their two feet together. Next we moved onto a hurdle race around the bike track, where the children ran and upon reaching the hurdle they needed to jump or step over it. The children showed such competence with this, I asked them if they would like to have a race and we would use the stop watch on my watch to see who could do it the fastest. The children each took turns at racing and using the stopwatch and each time they worked together to identify the time. Once everyone had a turn we sat down and looked at the times to work out who was the fastest. Today Layla was our speedster followed very closely by Angelina, then Rosie, Hamilton, Austin and Wynter. I loved what good sports they all were, and they seemed to have so much fun incorporating the timer aspect. This afternoon Hamilton has asked to do the races again, which I think is a great idea.
I hope you have a safe and happy long weekend, enjoying the beautiful weather. I look forward to seeing you all next week.
