It’s officially the first day of summer! It seems odd with all the winter themed festivities but the children are embracing it and were excited to change the calendar this morning. We had an extended play indoors this morning as the children were very busy and engaged as you can see from the photos. Reid, Xavier, Arden and Mace have finally figured out how to get the marble obstacles courses built all on their own.
Asher, Zander, Harper, Arden, Charlie, Charlotte Xavier and Genevieve all made some different country flags today to go with some stickers we got delivered from the language programme. While Marshall, Reid, Connor, Henry, Braxton, Genevieve, Theo and Leo were busy making treasure maps and talking about what they would find on their unique treasure islands. There was lots of practice with rulers, scissors, glue and pencils to help develop those fine motor skills and get them ready for school.
Later in the morning we had some free choice activities where Mace chose wild animals, others chose lego and many others chose the home corner. Kianni brought in a wonderful book about endangered animals which the children were fascinated with and it lead to lots of different discussions.
Our sport and movement sessions today was all about tennis where we used racquets to move a tennis ball around a hoop and back to our spot. We worked together in teams and the children enjoyed trying to race each other and win the game. I have been impressed this year at the childrne’s confidence to give things a try and their ability to challenge themselves against others and not getting upset if they don’t win. That is a massive part of playing with others and will serve them well heading to school and into sports teams.
The children really enjoyed the lasagne today and the yoghurt Christmas cakes this morning and they are doing really well at trying new foods so well done to everyone!
Enjoy the photos! P.S the video is in a small link below
