This morning the children engaged in block building activities in the outdoor environment. During this play they experienced a sun-shower, which caused a great deal of discussion about the weather (in particular what the children enjoyed about the rain). Due to this, we gathered together in a small group and shared these stories, briefly touching on story-sharing concepts such as who, what, where and when. To expand on this spontaneous interest, and the block interest, we imagined that the block creations were homes that protected us from wet weather. This led to an additional discussion about housing materials and the children voiced some thoughts as to how their houses were created. Colton – stick house / Harry – sand house / Avila – block house / Myla – stick house Indoors we reviewed our routine with the class, as we are currently emphasising the need to care for our belongings. This included creating designated places for shoes to be placed if the children did not wish to wear them during the day. Activities included making playdough and manipulating the dough for counting and shape making practice. The children enjoyed creating with the playdough, as well as engaging the process of making the dough. Tomorrow we will be continuing the revision of our classroom routine and expectations, including reviewing red/green choice concepts. The children will also be offered extension opportunities to use the playdough for building and/or shape recognition. We wish you a wonderful Monday! |
