Happy Friday Families, we made it through another week.
Today the children engaged so nicely with each other, playing with peers they wouldn’t normally engage with. The children were able to use play to build connections with one another while participating in shared learning.
Latika, Conall, Harper, Aleksander Cohan, Myla, Amelia and Ariana explored the dinosaurs and animals on the mat, they incorporated the large soft domino blocks with them, building houses for the animals to live in. Miss Connie joined them on the mat and they made a large domino track. They used a dinosaur to knock one domino over, watching the rest of them fall one after another. They then built this again repeating the process. Domino’s are a great way for children to not only explore numeracy but also experiment with cause and effect. Bjorn, Skylah and Amelia explored the dinosaur puzzles with Miss Connie. Puzzles give the children the skills they need to problem solve, understand shapes and further their cognitive and fine motor skills.
Over in home corner, Romney, Chanel, Vaughan, Harry, Charlotte and Myla participated in dramatic play using the costumes and environment to explore other identities, extend social and emotional skills, language and communication skills and building ingenuity.
This morning as we explored the Kindergarten two yard, we came across a small green frog hiding in a hat. Harry along with his Kindergarten friends helped to place the frog safely into the garden. We then made our way into the back yard where Harry, Ariana and Conall found a grasshopper. We watched him jump up onto the wooden seated area at the base of the treehouse. Harry rushed to the sandpit where he found a blue plastic plate, he then made his way back to his peers and the grasshopper before using the plate to scoop the grasshopper up. Harry, Ariana and Conall walked the grasshopper over to a tree in the garden across from the swing, Harry gently let the grasshopper make its way onto the tree and they watched him climb it to the top.
Miss Bek set up a reading nook in the bricked area leading to the, mud kitchen, as a small group we read the stories Harry and the dinosaurs go to the museum, thank you for being my friend and Mum for sale.
When we made our way back out into the yard before lunch, Miss Bec from senior kindy used the hose to cool down the outdoor equipment and surfaces, spontaneously we used the hose to fill the mud puddle in front of the swing area, Cohen and Harry enjoyed this area. The bikes and large blocks were also very popular today.
Have a wonderful safe weekend, we can’t wait to hear about it next week.
