Good Afternoon Families, This morning the children started their day with short group time, where the children revised the steps for preparing for outdoor play, caring for friends (being considerate) and taking care of the environment. Additionally, the children engaged in an activity where they practiced remembering their hat pocket tags, as each child has received a new rainbow themed tag. We noticed that these were very popular between the different classrooms, as other classmates investigated these new tags. We will continue revising which tags belong to whom, based on continued letter recognition activities and memorising the colour of the tags. A spontaneous, child-initiated storytime followed as the children listened to a story titled “A dinosaur ate dad’s hair” the children expressed much enthusiasm as they listened to the humourous tale of the dinosaur. We will continue encouraging this interest in physical books and include discussions about themes presented in the stories we are reading. Indoors, the children continued making their Valentines Day themed pictures. For this they practiced using scissors to cut collage paper, to paste onto the picture. The educators role-modelled the way to use the scissors, and helped guide the use of them during the children’s turns. Throughout this activity the children engaged in a discussion about what the children love. Playdough was offered again today, as the children utilised the playdough mats to practice manipulating the dough into various shapes. Some children demonstrated their recollection ability by showing that they remembered how to create certain shapes independently. Tomorrow we will be beginning a discussion about Chinese New Year celebrations which begin on Friday. We apologise that we will be unable upload photos today as we’ve encountered tech-difficulties, however we will print photos and present them in the classroom. Amy, Parminder & Jade
