Good afternoon everyone! We have continued with our “Ocean Stars” theme today. Play-based indoor activities today included:

  • Making starfish from brown and orange coloured glue, and adding black, brown, orange and red collage pieces
  • Creating jellyfish with recycled paper cups and an array of coloured wool
  • Painting at the easel in shades of blue and green, and then adding a variety of collage materials

According to the Early years Learning Framework (EYLF), the benefits to children participating in art and craft activities include:

Learning Outcome 4.1 – Children develop curiosity, cooperation, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity

Other fun activities today included:

  • “Fishing” for magnetised sea creatures with small wooden fishing rods
  • Matching various wooden sea animals to the same pictures of sea animals

The benefits to children participating in these two activities include:

  • Extending concentration and the ability to persist

Learning Outcome 4.2 – Developing a range of skills and processes such as problem-solving, experimentation and inquiry

Learning Outcome 5.1 – Children interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purposes

Learning Outcome 5.4 – Children are becoming more understanding of how patterns and symbols work

During outside playtime, Coen became an engineer, building an intricate, 3-D bridge structure. Mace also showed off his prowess whilst kicking a soccer ball. The obstacle course was also a hit with many children today.

Arakan martial arts class was also enjoyed by Narla and India for the first time today, and also by everyone else. It is really lovely to bring the broader community and extended learning opportunities/interests to the children in ways such as this

Until tomorrow, take care everyone!

Lots of love, Miss Donna and Miss Lyn xxx
