Happy Tuesday š
It has been a fun filled day in the Pre Kindergarten room with the children engaged in their learning and building strong connections with their peers. This morning a group of children were again enjoying the water pump access to use in the sand pit. They were cooking up a storm mixing the water and the sand to mould and manipulate with. We came inside for a quiet reading session which gave the children the opportunity to tell stories with friends and use their imagination while flipping through the pages. We had a group discussion on how to turn the pages gently, so we donāt damage our books. The children were showing off how gentle their hands were to Miss TJ and Miss Livia. Ā As we have combined the two classes, we wanted to start the day off by telling everyone our names. Also focusing on building those communication skills. We passed a whale toy around the circle a introduced ourselves. We were very impressed that everyone built up the confidence to tell everyone their names. Well done!
Extending off our involvement on Earth Day and our follow up yesterday, we decided to explore the book, āProtect Natureā a bit further today. Miss TJ asked the children āWhat is nature?ā, which Arlo responded saying āPlants, Butterfliesā, Emerson said āFlowersā and Zander said āAnimalsā. Thatās right! Today we learnt that we need to protect nature as our nature is in DANGER. We further read about the rubbish affecting our animals and how we can help. It has been so great to see the children really interested and focused on the topic of saving our planet. Miss TJ had their full attention! We watched a short educational clip called āA Whaleās Taleā which was an amazing story about a whale who gets a fishing net caught in his tail, so he uses the net to scoop up all of the rubbish in the ocean. At the end the net is heavy from all of the rubbish that he starts to sink. But a boy dives into the way and saves the whale and exposes the net full of rubbish into the bins. To follow up on our cleaning up the ocean discussion we played a game where the children had to save the toy whale and fish from the rubbish. We placed pieces of rubbish into a bucket full of water. Using pom poms as the imaginary fish and a whale. The children used forks to scoop up the rubbish and place on the tray. Some of the pieces were a bit tricky to grab but the children stayed persistent, wanting to save the ocean. It was great fine motor and hand eye coordination practice for our Pre Kindy children. Pre Kindy also enjoyed exploring some other activities around the room such as dressing up and playing shops in the home corner, telling stories with the felt boards, role playing at the doll house, practicing our pencil grip with the thick crayons doing free drawing and using our imagination to tell stories and play games with the puppets. The puppets were a planned experience for the children to build on communication and language skills and interactions with each other. Miss TJ engaged with the children in the puppet play to help guide the children in the interactions.
Before Lunch we let out some energy while doing some fun exercises. We did some stretching, star jumps, push ups, lunges and windmills. It was great to see the children involving themselves in a gross motor experience. The children gathered on the mat to practice our belly breathing, getting rid of our crazy monsters inside in preparation for a rest.
What a lovely day it was for Pre Kindy. Miss TJ and Miss Livia feel so lucky to have such a kind class.
