We have had a very exciting day today here at Pre-Kindy!
The “Ocean Stars” presentation was lots of fun and very informative. We learnt that:
- An octopus has three hearts
- Male starfish carry the babies
- Crabs have their skeletons on the outside of their bodies
- Some sharks lay eggs, whilst others give birth to their babies
The children got to touch starfish, sea cucumbers, coral, hermit crabs, and shark’s eggs. We also listened to the sea in big seashells, matched various sea animals and looked at some interesting books on sea creatures, and also at specimens in bottles.
Today’s incursion activity aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework, Learning Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world. Sub-Outcome 2.4 informs us that through activities such as those presented today, children become more socially responsible and gain a deeper appreciation for their environment.
Some of our other activities today included playing in our “ocean” set up, drawing sea animals, and playing outside where the children were involved in engineering activities – constructing buildings and transformers, and making tunnels to slide bean bags down.
Until tomorrow everyone, where we will continue on with our wonderful “Ocean Stars” theme for all the children to enjoy.
Lots of love,
Miss Donna and Miss Lyn xxxx
