Hello families and friends…
This week in the Senior Kindy room we are recognising ‘National Science Week’ by engaging in an experiment each day where the children are given the opportunity to interact, observe, make predictions and evaluate what has occurred. This years theme is ‘Deep Blue’ – innovations for the future of our oceans. Today the children engaged in a ‘floating and sinking’ experiment as the children and Miss Leesa gathered a variety of items from both the indoor and outdoor environments including a cup of sand, a rock from the garden, raw pasta, feathers, lego blocks, toy cars and pom poms. Miss Tatyana then sat on the mat and the children quickly gathered as they all helped identify each item and then predict if it was going to float or sink in the tub of water. The children did very well with their predictions as they called out what occurred as each item was dropped into the water. Tomorrow we will be creating an ‘erupting glitter volcano’.
Other play experiences today included transport play on the new car mat, puzzle play, Yoga with Miss Haley, drawing on the whiteboards, baby doll play and doll house play. Outdoors the children enjoyed water play, cooking in the outdoor kitchen – mixing bark, sand and water and having a pretend picnic at the sandpit table. Yarn time today we sang along with our frog puppets as we sang Galomp, Mr Frog and 3 Little Speckled Frogs and we shared Dr Seuss’ ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ and ‘There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Mozzie’ storybooks…
Until next time…
Love Miss Leesa, Miss Tatyana and Miss Jade
