Thursday’s Senior Kindy Blog
Happy Thursday everyone! It has been a fun filled day for the Senior Kindy children. They have all been practicing their gentle hands and have been using kind words with one another. We are so proud of our classroom. Out in the yard this morning the group enjoyed playing together in the sandpit and listening to stories with Miss Donna.
Once inside we sat together on the mat and Cohen began to sing the ‘Hello’ song while tapping his hands onto his knees. The class followed Cohen in on the song, clapping along and singing loud and proud. Miss TJ and Mr G sat back and watched how beautiful the children were! The children individually showed off their counting skills taking turns to count to 10! We had a group discussion on what we should do today… Harvey and Ayla asked if we could do painting today and the children all agreed.
Last week the children really enjoyed our fine motor experience where they pegged pictures of clothing on the line. Today we extended on the game by washing clothes in a bucket of soapy water and then hanging the wet washing on the clothesline with pegs. The children are getting really good at using pegs. It has been great fine motor practice, especially today where the children need to focus on using one had to hold the washing while the other hand opened the peg and place it over the clothing and the line. Children’s voice during water play, peg game:
Hendrix- Ta Da! This will get dry
Zachary- Look I did it Miss TJ. Where’s more pegs? I need a blue one. More drying.
Ayla- Drying the hangers. I can’t do it… TJ I did it!
Connor- Hanging up the washing. Yep two!
Tate- That one not going there. Yes!
Taran- Squishing! Pink peg.
Harvey- Just washing. Wash wash wash (singing)
We grabbed all the paint colours of the rainbow and cotton buds as a different painting tool for the children to do some free painting. The cotton buds helped us to practice a pencil grip when painting.
The children also participated in a cutting exercise, using scissors to cut up newspaper. The children were very engaged in the scissor cutting as they had large pieces of newspaper to cut as much as they liked. Miss TJ and Mr G were there to help guide the children when they were struggling to hold the scissors correctly. They were very proud of themselves when they got it!
Senior Kindy went up to the outside playground the do our Arakan Martial Arts lesson with Mr Dan. We practiced our kicks and blocking. Mr Dan is really great with the children, always making the lessons really fun and safe.
To calm our bodies down the children lay on the mat pretending to be sleeping children. Miss TJ pretended she was a fairy putting magical glitter on the children. The glitter gave everyone magical powers to eat and sleep well. The children were so cute doing their belly breathing throughout the story.
Before lunch the children practiced some self help skills making their own beds.
Hope you all had a lovely day
