Welcome to Wednesday! Today in Senior Kindy we had Tate, Connor, Macy, Joseph, Ryan, Zachary, Hendrix, Harvey and Ayla 😊
This morning we had a really nice play together enjoying some sun and the shade of the trees. Tate was having fun building with the sensory blocks on the brick circle. Connor was sitting around a “camp fire” that he made with his brother Henry and with Aria. Tate, Zachary, Joseph and Hendrix were keeping watch over at the fence, trying to spot certain coloured cars. They became really excited when a few big trucks drove past. The group also were having a good old giggle balancing the soft dominos on the climbing frame before Connor smashed them over. It was a beautiful moment of the children connecting with each other and building those positive relationships.
Once inside the children found a pack of alphabet cards and were asking Miss TJ what letter card they were holding. We sounded out the sounds of each letter and named some of the things that were in the card. Really great to see the children curious about literacy! Senior Kindergarten then went and explored the room further. As we are approaching Australia day we brought out some small toy koalas and kangaroos, adding them to our grass tables with branches from our outside tree. While discussing where do koala’s live and what they eat, here were some of the children’s responses:
What do Koalas eat?
Joseph- “Banana’s”
Tate- “Food”
( we then learnt that Koala’s eat a leaf called Eucalyptus )
Where do Koala’s live?
Ayla- “In the trees”
Macy- “I love my Koala”
Zachary- “When you hurt the Koala they go ow!”
Harvey- “In the fire”
That’s right Harvey. Unfortunately a lot of our Australian wildlife has been effected by the fires, including Koalas. The children really enjoyed role playing with the Koalas and Kangaroos over on the grass table. We watched a short clip on Youtube of real Koalas in their natural habitat and some unwell Koalas being looked after. To show our support to the Koalas we made a group picture where the children did finger printing to turn their finger prints into Koalas. The children loved the feeling of the paint on their fingers as they giggled and had huge smiles on their faces.
The children also enjoyed free drawing using crayons and pens today so that we can put them up on our Gallery wall. Our room is beginning to look very colourful. Our friends made use of the long hallway that we have in our room to race the cars down.
Hope you all have a lovely afternoon
