What a beautiful morning it was outside today! The children enjoyed ball sports and greeting each other when arriving to kindy. As we only had a few friends at kindy today, all three classrooms combined in the Pre-kindy room with Miss TJ, Miss Thais and Miss Emma. The children had a blast playing all together and meeting some of our new friends. At group time we warmed up our voices by singing ‘Skinner Marinky’, ’10 little Indians’ and another counting song, ‘5 cheeky monkeys’. We all used our fingers to help us count the Indians and Monkeys during the songs. It was great numeracy practice! We then read ‘There’s a big green frog in the toilet’ which the children were listening to with amazing listening bodies. We all had a bit of a giggle during the book.
It was then time for the children to venture off and explore the room together. Our friend Milly was very excited to tell us all about her holiday to Brisbane where she saw the New Years Eve fire works. This started a conversation between a group of children who were all saying that they saw some fireworks. They talked about all the colours of the fireworks and how they were in the sky. Extending on this discussion we put out a painting activity where the children painted fireworks using forks as a painting tool. Miss TJ showed the children how use the forks to do long strokes which made it look like fireworks. The children had a go at the technique and they came out very colourful.
The children enjoyed doing some construction activities such as lego and mobilo. The drawing table was very popular today with the children using pens and crayons to do free drawing alongside their peers, discussing colours and what they were drawing. The group also had fun in the home corner area and making up game together.
Before we packed away the children gathered on the mat to do some yoga. We played a yoga story clip called ‘Cosmic kids’ which was a lady who showed us some yoga poses and stretches while telling us the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. They absolutely loved this experience and were very focused on their balance and how they moved their bodies.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend. See you next week!
