Welcome to Friday everyone, and happy Valentine’s Day to all. A big thank you to all the families who worked with their children to create a Valentine’s Family Heart for our wall. The children love to share activity time with you, and it really helps to pull us all together.

Maia’s daddy dropped a Valentine’s Day gift in for her today – beautiful flowers and a special plush toy. How very sweet. Maia was SO excited!

This morning the children really enjoyed their Funky Feet dance class with Miss Jenn. William really shone today and did a fantastic dance routine all by himself. Well done William! It is so wonderful to see your confidence growing.

Through music and movement, children develop creativity and expression, refine listening skills, and improve balance, rhythm and coordination, just to mention a few benefits! This aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework – Learning Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing, both emotionally and socially, and they also take greater responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing.

In addition, today the children enjoyed the following play-based learning experiences:

  • Painting both hands in the colours of the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander flags. Not only was this a tactile, sensory experience that the children enjoyed, it also provided an opportunity to teach/discuss with the children more about the first Australians’ role in our country as custodians of the land.
  • From this experience, we went on to look at Aboriginal symbols on pieces of paper, discuss their meanings, and try to draw/recreate them ourselves with textas and crayons. This extension of learning really helps the children to learn more about their broader community/world they live in, and about differences and similarities between us all. This aligns with Learning Outcome 2.2, whereby children learn to respond to diversity with respect.

Please enjoy today’s blog. We hope you all have a lovely weekend. Stay safe and dry, as more rain is forecast over the weekend

Love from Miss Donna and Miss Livia XX
